Asonzeh Ukah (PhD in History of Religions 2004, University of Bayreuth) is Professor for the Study of Religions and Director of the African Centre for Religion, Ethics and Society at the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on religion in global and transnational contexts, with a particular emphasis on the media, material, and popular cultures of African Pentecostalism.

 

In November 2025, he was a POLY Short-Term Fellow and delivered a public keynote lecture for the Writing Group “Seeking Salvation” at Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in Bad Homburg, titled “From Water to Fire: How Baptismal Rituals Shape Power and Authority in African Christianities.”
