Carlos Almeida (PhD in Anthropology – Ethnology 2010, Nova University of Lisbon) is a Researcher at the Center for History of the University of Lisbon, where he coordinates the Research Group "Cultures and Societies of Encounter." His work focuses on the history of Africa, especially the West-Central region (15th-19th centuries), Catholic missions, material culture, and the image of Africa and Africans in European culture.

 

In the Winter Term 2025/26, he was a POLY Writing Fellow in the Writing Group "Seeking Salvation." During the group's meetings at Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften Bad Homburg in November 2025 and April 2026, he developed his contribution to the first volume of POLY's forthcoming three-volume book project, Doing Christianity: A Praxeological Guide to Polycentricity and Plurality of Premodern Christianities.
